Monday was back to the business of rehabilitation.  Paige worked very hard all day at every type of therapy. Her appetite was healthy, and she gave her mother a few giggles and eye rolls.

A new attending neurosurgeon thought that Paige was well enough that he could be more candid with us about the life threatening nature of her injuries.  His comments just reinforced how fortunate we are to have her recovering so well.

Paige's vision is still an issue, but Burke does have ophthalmologists and neuro-ophthalmologists available.  Her progress will be monitored carefully.

Her father mentioned that there were benefits - if she needed glasses, she could get some that made her look like Sarah Palin.  Paige looked grim, put her hands on the table and said, "Dad, that was way over the line.  The line is over here, and you were way over there".

Paige is enjoying reading your cards and comments.  Please keep them coming.

  1. paige dearest!

im so happy you're doing so well! life at kent is pretty much as normal. but i got into unc chapel hill, and im going there next year! its such a relief to be through with the process. we have our big race against ko on wednesday, and we had a really hard practice today in preparation. it was so tough that i was forced to splurge at the sc on a pretty major feast, which i then devoured in janes bed. janes bad has been my new home because they just bought a tv! you'll have to come snuggle with me there when youre back. as of late, ive actually been watching the original version of pride and prejudice. i finished it about an hour ago and my emotions are going haywire at the moment. i just LOVE mr. darcy. im sorry; ill stop boring you with my jane austen talk.

i love you so much paigey dearest. ellie and i are planning to visit you over winter weekend so be prepared! keep up the great work!

  2. Ok Paige, this blog is supposed to make you feel better, but you're making me lol with the Sarah Palin "over the line" comment to your dad. Too funny. I'm certain there are some glasses out there just for you, to suit your very bright, funny personality, but you can cross that bridge when you come to it.

I bet you keep those docs and therapists on their toes. That's a good thing - you don't want them slacking off! Keep up all the good work and the sense of humor, it'll go a longggg way. I hope to bring Patty to see you, but at this rate you'll probably be back at Kent before I can get up from North Carolina! Take care, Mrs. Niemann

  6. Dear Paige, Laurie and George,
Greetings from Kent on a gray day that seems to snow a bit and then stop for a bit. School is going along ok as we all look eagerly for a weekend off on Thursday (winter weekend). We are glad to hear that you may have visitors and I'm sure we'll be setting up a schedule for Sunday trips starting on the 15th? Love and hugs (and licks from Tuffy), Ms. M

  11. Paiger-

We had an amazing meet against KO today. I know that Mr. Naylor was keeping you posted...93-30 was the final score!!! Everyone was very fired up and definitely had you in their thoughts as they swam past those KO girls. We are all so proud of the amazing progress that you are making! Keep up the good work!
