Paige had previously preferred long midnight perambulations, going around the halls and into other patients' rooms. On the previous night, she was up playing "Go Fish" with her godmothers Jane and Suzanne, who together very kindly took on the long night duty of watching over Paige.
This morning Paige went outdoors for the first time in two weeks. She was bundled up in her wheel chair and toured the roads around her building. With its 58 acre campus, Burke has ample pathways and few cars.
Paige's great friend Genevieve came by, which was comforting to all of us. Paige and Genevieve were in Greenwich hospital together when they were born and they have known each other since. They touched on many subjects, perhaps most importantly that Genevieve's family dog is named after William F. Buckley, Jr.
By late afternoon, Paige was back in touch with her world. She was using her mobile for text and speech, and a hospital computer for instant messaging and checking Facebook. Paige saw this blog for the first time, and she was very moved as she started to read your many wonderful comments. They will provide comfort for her.
This burst of communication unfortunately turned up a problem with her vision, in her ability to focus on near objects. We look forward to having her doctors back tomorrow.
Throughout the day, it became clearer that she has no recollection of the accident and the trials of her stay in Stamford. That is a blessing.
Thank you again for your love and support.
Dear Paige, It's music to our ears that you are progressing so beautifully! Thanks to the extraordinary support of the medical teams, family, friends and the exceptional daily blog postings keeping us all up to date, our mornings have been increasingly brightened with your news. You are in our thoughts from dawn to dusk - and in between! Heavy snow here in England overnight so Lillie's off sledding & Torks & Oli are lamenting this one disadvantage of boarding school - no snow days!! All send heaps of love! We miss you and can't wait to see you again very soon. Keep up the fantastic progress - we're very proud of you. Lots of love,
ReplyDeleteAll, Paige made a brief appearance on the Kent campus yesterday via texting. Kim and I received a call around noon from Christian saying " I got busted texting in chapel" after a knee jerk parent reaction Christian informed me that he had been texting with Paige! What would normally be a potential disciplinary situation was let go by Dean Soco with a smile and a stern "Don't do it again". Paige, it's great to hear of your continued progress and I can't tell you how much we all miss you. Christian's voice was as excited as I have ever heard it as he reported texting with you. As I was on the phone with him I could hear other friends asking him "What did she say?" "How is Paige?" Little did you know that your simple text would make so many of your Kent family so happy. Keep up the good work and the texting {even in chapel!}. Much love, Barret and Kim Naylor
ReplyDeletePaige,
ReplyDeleteThe first thing I do every morning is check your blog and Katherine's. We love both of you so much, and are pulling for complete recoveries for each of you. It sounds like you are making wonderful, steady progress. Uncle Jimmy and I think of you (and your parents) all the time. Lots and lots of Virginia love!

Paige,
ReplyDeleteWhat a treat it was for Alex and me to see you this weekend. Your spirit was strong, your energy was high, and your sense of humor was terrific. I am so glad we made the trip. It was also great to meet Ryan and (the other) Alex; you have very special friends.
To all: Paige's mischievous smile is back, along with her plotting (which can not be revealed here - otherwise it wouldn't be a plot).
Love,
Uncle Chris
Dear Paige,
ReplyDeleteUntil yesterday, I had spent one minute in your presence in Marion. I enjoyed every minute of my time with you yesterday getting to know you. What an extraordinary young woman you are!! I loved our conversations about Obama and the sports we both love to play (or the ones I used to love to play in my youth). Most of all, I love your sense of humor!! You made me laugh, and I LOVE to laugh. I am already looking forward to swimming with you in Marion this summer. You and I can show your mother how it is REALLY done!
I am so impressed by your recovery progress. YOU GO GIRL!!!! I send you all my love and support, and I will be thinking of you and following your progress every day.
Love,
Phoebe
ps/ That Ryan is some kind of DEVINE HUNK!! However, the wrong team won the Super Bowl!!
Good afternoon Paige, What a joy to learn of your accomplishments yesterday. Congratulations! All your good upbringing and collective life experiences have enabled you to dig deep and tap into your characteristic spirit and determiniation. Throughout this entire blog, all the Hosts have demonstrated remarkable strength, but most of all our warrior-girl Paige! Best wishes for continued progress.
