Paige was a passenger in a car that overturned early in the morning of Sunday January 18th. She suffered serious injuries to her head and spine, including two skull fractures and seven fractured vertebrae, bruised lungs, and a broken collarbone and cheekbone. She was taken to the best trauma unit in the area, where she has been receiving considerate care.
Paige has been sedated to allow her to recover from the injuries and not struggle against the various invasive tubes, including five that were down her throat. Late on Monday her team decided that she had recovered enough to breathe on her own, and they removed the breathing tubes.
On Tuesday, she spoke a few words. She is in a lot of pain and needs help managing her discomfort. Her clavicle may require surgery, but she cannot be operated on unless her brain injuries improve substantially.
We have been grateful for the outpouring of support from friends and family and her extraordinary Kent community. We know that she is buoyed by all the love and prayers and cards and flowers. Please keep her in your thoughts.
Get well soon, Mutt. We love you very very much. Much love, Mom and Dad

All the best from Marie-Louise and family in Denmark
I am Brooks's godmother (Victoria), but after so many years of hanging around the Host family, including breaking in on family occasions like Christmas and birthdays, I pretty much consider myself to be, unofficially, godmother to Paige and Elizabeth as well. So I'd like to tell you a story about my goddaughter Paige. Year's ago, George, Laurie, the children, and I were at Stig and Jeanne's for supper. I suddenly wasn't feeling well, so a cab was called to take me to 5 Pierson Dr. I insisted that no one get up from the dinner table - that I could make my way perfectly well to the taxi. There was resistance, but I was firm. Still, just as the taxi pulled away, someone broke through the ranks - it was seven-year-old Paige, enthusiastically waving and blowing kisses and yelling, "Auntie Victoria, feel better! I love you! See you soon!" Do you see? She just couldn't let me go without a send-off. In my superior adult wisdom, I had deemed it best that I make a quiet exit on my own, but she knew better, and how touched I was to see that darling girl rush outside to make a fuss over me. Such a big and wise heart for her seven years. Our dear Paige is, and always has been, an extraordinarily kind and determined and positive girl. She has demonstrated these qualities to me over and over again. In my mind, I see Paige completely healed from the serious injuries she has sustained. It's hard to imagine that anyone could not recover beautifully when surrounded by so much love and good care. If I know Paige, she will insist, once again and despite obstacles, on doing what she instinctively knows is best, which is to get strong and healthy and pick up exactly where she left off: leading a wonderful, generous, abundant life. Love to all, Auntie Victoria

love Janice and Bruce Richards ( and Kim, Alex and Caroline). We remember from the dinner we had at Milbrook a couple of years ago what a bright and shining star Paige is to all who meet her.

Paigey,
ReplyDeleteWe all love you and your spirit,
Love all the Bashams
Paigey, I haven't seen you since your mother's surprise b-day, but I know your spirit and the spunky kid on the hiking trail at Caesar's Head who grew up to be darling who bounced into the club that special night! If I know you, and recovering from a wreck such as yours, my odds are that you'll soon be manning the halls in your wheelchair with your friends and fam in close chase. Keep your spirits up and rest easy. You'll be BACK! sooner than you think and better than ever!!!
ReplyDeleteBig hugs,
Stephanie Norris (Blood South)
Dear Paige,
ReplyDeleteWe are thinking a lot of you and really hope you will get well soon! Lots of love from your Danish family - Benedicte, Mikkel, Oscar and Anna.
Hey Paige you should know that there is an incredible amount of love and prayer pouring out of South Carolina. We are all hoping that you will soon be out of that hospital bed and back on your own two feet. I think it's about time for you to come and visit the real South Carolina ( not all those granola heads in the mountains, and you need to see were not all a bunch of hicks, no pun intended of course). I love you and I hope you get better.
ReplyDeleteMuch Love
