What a simple joy to see Paige sipping from her ubiquitous water bottle and eating her first solid foods today.  Laurie is now allowed to cook for Paige, which is good for both of them, and she arrived this morning with macaroni and cheese, swedish meatballs and brown rice to celebrate a fond farewell to the dreadful dysphagia diet.  Paige told the dietician that her favorite food was really...chocolate.

Paige approached her physical therapy with determination.  She climbed stairs and tied her sneakers.  She told her nurse that her Mom overreacts and over analyses, then peppered Laurie with many an "I love you".

We are all finding our way around her impressive rehabilitation hospital.  Paige is followed by the medical director of the brain injury program, the director of rehabilitation psychology, a director of neurological rehabilitation, a case worker, a neurosurgeon, and many wonderful therapists and nurses.  Her team, and they are quite a team, thinks she is making good progress.

We received perhaps the largest get well card ever to pass through the postal service.  It is signed by most of the Kent community.  It is petitioning Paige to recover.  Many thanks for pulling that together.

Keep in your mind, always, the verse from Phillipians 4:13, ""I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me"! Yes, you can! Continued best thoughts and prayers to you and your strong, wonderful family. Patty's Mom

  13. Hi Paige and Family, this is Phoebe and Family from Adirondack Camp, we have been thinking of you every day, and now so glad that you are where you are- Phoebe's dad spent 5 weeks, probably in the same White Plains rehab hospital in the Brain injury unit 3 years ago, and we can atest to the amazing work done there and the even more amazing power of the brain to heal itself!- you will be amazed as well. And we wish you a speedy recovery and the warm Adirondack breezes to heal you quickly

  17. HALLELUJAH!!! WE JUST GOT HOME AND HEARD YOUR FANTASTIC NEWS. I AM SOOOOO THRILLED AND RELIEVED AS WILL BE THE HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE INCLUDING ALL OF OUR FRIENDS WHO HAVE BEEN FOLLOWING YOUR PROGRESS. YOU ARE AMAZING. THANK YOU , LAURIE, SO VERY VERY MUCH FOR CALLING AND LEAVING THAT MESSAGE ON OUR TAPE!!!
I LEFT A LONG COMMENT EARLY THIS MORNING BUT MY COMPUTER NEEDED UPDATING AND DECIDED TO TAKE THAT OPPORTUNITY TO SHOW ME HOW REMISS I WAS BY CHEWING IT AND SPITTING IT OUT.
NOW AFTER AN HOUR WITH THE APPLE HELP MAN I'M BACK IN BUSINESS. AT 6:00 AM, PART OF MY MESSAGE WAS, "KNOWING HOW HARD BURKE IS WORKING YOU WITH YOUR THERAPY, I WAS SO IMPRESSED THAT YOU STILL FOUND TIME YESTERDAY TO BE THOROUGHLY ENGAGED WITH YOUR TEAM AT THE SWIM MEET YESTERDAY. YOU ARE QUITE A GIRL!"
WE LOVE YOU SOOOOOO MUCH. MOPSIE
